Balanced Body, Merrithew or Align-Pilates? Compare the model, not just the name
A practical way to compare three reformer brands on the things that matter after delivery.
Review basis: Buying guide · How we review

The takeaway
A brand can offer very different machines. Compare the exact model, package and local support before choosing a winner.
There is no useful one-word winner
A familiar brand name is a starting point. It does not tell you whether a particular model fits under your bed, supports a tower or is covered for teaching clients. Begin with a shortlist of models designed for your intended use, then compare their limitations.
Our home-reformer shortlist includes the Balanced Body Metro IQ, Merrithew At Home SPX and Align-Pilates F3. They are different solutions, so treating them as interchangeable would hide the very details that should drive the decision.
Balanced Body: make the storage choice explicit
For the Metro IQ, specify which storage configuration you want when requesting a quote. Ask the seller to confirm the clearance your chosen version needs. A storage promise is only useful if the machine fits the actual space you have measured.
Merrithew: separate home models and upgrade paths
Merrithew's home range includes both At Home SPX and Home V2 Max models. The Home V2 Max supports a Vertical Frame; the At Home SPX does not. Decide whether that expansion matters before comparing package prices.
Align-Pilates: account for the moving routine
With a folding model such as the F3, the decision includes how you will store it after practice. Ask who demonstrates setup, what floor surface is suitable and where the machine will stand. A small stored footprint is only one part of convenience.
Send each seller the same questions
Ask for the delivered total, included accessories, exact dimensions, intended-use warranty, return procedure and local service arrangements. Request an answer for the specific model you are ordering, not a link to a general brand promise.
Our recommendation is to shortlist by space and intended use, then use the complete quote and service response to decide. The best value is the configuration you can use consistently and maintain, not simply the lowest headline price.
